Interviewing Children who Identify as LGBTQ

October 9 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

$449

Forensic interviewers often encounter children who identify as having a sexual orientation and/or gender identity (e.g. transgender or non-binary) that is marginalized. These children are at high risk for all forms of maltreatment and other adversities and traumas for being who they are authentically. Additionally, these children may present with mental health issues possibly because of encountering criticism or rejection by peers or family. Establishing rapport and trust are important elements of a successful forensic interview. Child witnesses want to feel acknowledged and heard. We will address the importance of a respectful approach with this group of children as well as challenges in working with investigative partners and the legal system.

This training is recommended for forensic interviewers who have developed some comfort and flexibility with the continuum of questioning strategies as well as the phases of a forensic interview.
