Interviewing Children who Identify as LGBTQ
October 1, 2025 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
$449Forensic interviewers often encounter children and adolescents who have a marginalized sexual orientation and/or gender identity (i.e., LGBQT+). These children and teens are at high risk for all forms of maltreatment and other adversities and traumas for being who they are authentically. As a result, they could present to the CAC, MDT, and/or FI with mental health and other issues. Establishing rapport and trust are important elements of a successful forensic interview, both of which can be enhanced with basic knowledge about LGBTQ+ youth. We will address the importance of a culturally informed and respectful approach with this population, as well as challenges in working with non-affirming investigative partners and the legal system.
This training is recommended for forensic interviewers who have developed some comfort and flexibility with the continuum of questioning strategies and the phases of a forensic interview.
